It’s our official Jo Lauren Baby Launch!
After months and months of preparation, we’re finally ready to launch our baby skin care and bath collection! We’re totally excited, so excited, if we were dogs we’d probably wet ourselves in sheer happiness. Except we’re human, so we have better control over our bladders.
Today is a wonderful day to celebrate our opening and we invite you to explore our store. If you are here, it’s probably because you heard we’re 100% food grade ingredients. No kidding!
That’s in fact the “secret” to our baby care products. Why, you ask? Because the market is, flooded with plenty of baby products, chemical-laden, natural, organic baby products, you name it.
But as a mom, what I’m really interested in is simple – are all my baby’s products safe to use and without short, medium or long-term side effects? Is natural and organic really the best?
Sadly, even with organic products, there can be some questionable ingredients. Read on if you’re not faint-hearted, links to sources below. Phenoxyethanol and sodium benzoate are 2 examples of preservatives, allowed in certified organic products, but are known to be toxic to infants and are potentially carcinogenic. The FDA has warned that phenoxyethanol is toxic to infants via ingestion, and “can depress the central nervous system and may cause vomiting and diarrhea.” Combined with chlorphenesin, these two chemicals can cause respiratory depression in infants.[1] As for sodium benzoate, it can form benzene, a known carcinogen in combination with ascorbic acid, vitamin C.[2]
That ain’t what mama wants to hear about her baby’s skin care products!
So armed with some years of skincare experience and contacts, I decided to make my own baby care products for Lauren. Oh, have I not introduced you yet? Lauren is the most beautiful and lovely baby you’d ever meet in your entire life. That’s right. It’s a fact.
Anyway, Lauren is a super allergic baby. She breaks out in weeping eczema rashes when she’s hot, when she’s cold, when she bites her foot so much the skin around her lips start getting rashy. Sigh. Long story short, I tried all sorts of store-bought products to get rid of her angry rashes but there wasn’t any improvement. So I prayed to our Lord to send a miracle.
Everyone was asking me what’s wrong with Lauren’s skin and suggested I try products that I had either, already tried or am uninterested due to questionable ingredients. Sigh. At that point, I was laying ground for a skincare line I wanted to launch for women. Yes, adult women like myself. Unfortunately, or fortunately, my very supportive but critical hubby Ray, challenged me to solve Lauren’s eczema instead. “If you can’t even help our own daughter, don’t even try.” Sweet. Yes my hubby is sweet, I know.
So when I was at the end of my rope, I decided to just mix up something, a balm, I needed something to moisturize her skin. I didn’t expect her rash fade away, definitely not within half a day. And I felt fireworks explode in my stomach. I was ecstatic her skin showed signs of getting better so quickly.
I felt extremely moved and grateful to God, for He had proven Himself not only able but faithful, to heal His little ones. Then it hit me, if it works for Lauren, could it possibly work for other babies?
So instead of my original grand plan of starting a skin care line for women my own age, I decided to start a skin care and bath line for babies. Formulated with 100% food-grade ingredients, our products do not contain preservatives or chemicals. Not even the “derived from natural food source” ingredients because even those can be contaminated and adulterated in the “derivation” process. And why use those processed ingredients when I can use the real thing instead? If an ingredient is edible, surely it is that much safer than one that is only of cosmetic grade.
To end this first post off, my business is God-inspired and divinely led. Only to the glory and honour of Jesus, am I able to bring my products to the market today. And my duty is to make skincare products that can bring healing to all babies. Cos,
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. James 1:17 NKJV
