Yes! In a month of so, my little imp will be officially a toddler! *Terrible twos, shoo shoo shoo!*
For now, we’re definitely showering BB Lauren with all the love we have and even love we don’t have, by showing her off to random people in elevators and hoping to elicit praises on how cute she looks, or get her to smile at the chef of a swanky Omakase restaurant (not exactly the most kid-friendly place but we’re crazy parents). Every new trick up her sleeve that she executes with baby-like precision, makes us weak in our knees, begging her for more. Which, she never obliges, of course. She knows we’re putty in her hands.
Right from the start, she was a charmer. She stuck her tongue out the moment she was born. Everyone, from the ward nurses to the block cleaner at our place, heaped praises on her. She knew she was doing it right.
And she always smiled, from day 1, even if it was just a newborn reflex. I remember feeling very lost after coming home from the hospital. It was after all my first time becoming a mom. After a grueling 19 hours drug-free labour, I was kind of “broken” in a way. But I shall not digress. In short, her smiles made me forget all pain and worries.
And I absolutely love breastfeeding her, even up till today and she’s turning 1 next month! I thank God for a smooth breastfeeding journey! I really miss her milk-high look though. They lose that after a while and no longer look THAT satisfied although they are. Back then, Ray would ask me what’s she smoking and I would be like, ‘I have no idea.’ Until I stumbled upon Wikipedia, which says breastmilk has been shown to supply a type of endocannabinoid (the natural neurotransmitters that marijuana simulates) So she’s definitely been “smoking weed” for the past 11 months or so haha!
She was very expressive and I lost count of how many photos and videos I’ve taken of her. Love her Blue Steel looks!
Inevitably though, my two furkids, Eski and Miu Miu have been sidelined. It is simply too challenging to keep up as before once a newborn is in the household.
Well at least they still have each other!
And then we get this quite a lot. Notice how Eski likes to put stuff into his food bowl. That rascal!
The reason why I didn’t die of boredom was because of this sling that my BFF got me, BEST GIFT EVER! I tried fitting her inside many times but she resisted it as though it was the chamber of torture until one day, when she turned 6 weeks, it just clicked. She found her sweet spot and we’ve never looked back again. Every where I went, she’d be snug inside, right next to me. Even up to today! We can eat at the hawker centre and she’d be totally contented inside the mini-me sling. It’s a lifesaver really.
There was a phase where she could only sleep in her rocker so I monitored her using a baby cam. She’d get into hilarious positions and it definitely helped that I could be outside doing my work and not worry about her falling off her rocker.
Ever wondered how is it possible to fall asleep at the dining table? Wonder no more. I’m sure BB Lauren is not the only baby that can eat dinner and fall asleep at the same time but there you go. The reason why she’s hanging over like that is because she was eating and patting Eski, until she dozed off.
There were days she refused to sleep anywhere else but on me, so I had her inside the sling. She would sleep with her eyes slightly open, almost as if warning me not to play punk and move her away. I wouldn’t dare mess with Her Royal Crankiness of course.
You, my sweetie pie, has taught me that it is absolutely possible to love someone so much, that life is only complete because of you. I was nothing, but you came along and now I have everything. Because of you. I love you, more than you can ever imagine. God bless you!
