Mama Jo’s Personal Take:
The Castile Washes have a very special place in my heart because it is literally the only shower product (aside from the colloidal oat bath bags) that our family can use without developing dry, rough or itchy patches on our skin, and that includes Papa Ray! He gets rough patches if I swap out our washes for something else, and he gets rather peeved and doesn’t understand why I do it! (Well, cos even I love to try products, guilty as charged!) What struck me most was an episode during Lauren’s playgroup where her teachers used a different product on her, and she came back with a forehead full of rashes after just 1 week. It was deeply troubling for me as her rashes did not subside despite using the Miracle Balm repeatedly. That was a lesson in point – as long an allergy/contact trigger is present, the Miracle Balm is not able to soothe and calm the rashes as expected.

Castile soap is a top quality soap with origins from the Castile region of Spain. Do not confuse commercial soap with castile soap. Though both are made by mixing oils with a lye, commercial soap is usually made using animal fat (tallowate). On the other hand, pure castile soap is made by mixing olive oil with a lye. Castile soap is considered the mildest soap because glycerin, a by product of the process, is retained in the product. In contrast, valuable glycerin is usually removed from commercial soaps and sold off. That explains why commercial soaps are usually drying and harsh.
Our Jo Lauren baby castile wash retains the glycerin and to enjoy the multiple benefits of other botanical oils, our baby castile wash is made using oils of coconut, olive and jojoba. This combination provides us additional moisturizing and protective benefits from organic coconut and jojoba oils. In addition, we include organic aloe vera to soothe sensitive skin babies.[1]
THIS IS NOT A TEAR-FREE FORMULA. Castile soap do not contain numbing agents and so is not tear-free. When using our baby castile wash, do exercise caution and avoid baby’s eyes! For Lauren, I dispense just 1 pump of baby castile wash to wash her hair. I am extra careful to rinse it off with her head tilted backwards. For her face, I use our Baby Colloidal Oatmeal Bath Bag for a milky cleanse, remember, no castile soap for baby’s face! It is more gentle that way.
Before placing her in the tub, I would dispense two pumps of baby castile wash to cleanse her diaper area. One pump for her neck and shoulders, one pump for her feet. Then I would rinse off the baby castile wash foam and place her in the tub.
